Busy boy in the garden this weekend and I was not the only one!! Garden center was heaving.

While in there I spotted some lovely little (2') flowering cherrys. I bought a smaller one last year and after floering planted it in the ground but it dies almost instantly. I was quite upset as I really love these Japanese cherrys and it would of made a lovely addition to my Japanese style garden.

Has any one else any exsperiance with these and any tips for planting out sucess. I don't boter asking the guys in the garden center because unless its a bedding annual they never have a clue and only read the tag attached anyway.

    Thanks in advance.

Unlucky if it died, ours grows beautifully. It is not as low growing as the label says though. We have had to cut it back hard to keep it down to a couple of metres tall and half a metre across. Flower well despite that. We are in a very cold and generally windy spot with low rainfall.

I had one a number of years ago and it died within months although it was still in a pot.

I planted one of these in my mum's garden about 10 years ago; it was about 2 feet tall when I planted it and it grew to a stunning bushy shrub a good 4-5ft across and about 3-4ft in height.

It was planted in the ground in a spot that was sheltered from strong (and cold) winds and it recieved several hours of sun from late morning until evening.

Never had a problem with it, other than quite a bit of dead twiggy growth, but to be honest it was not noticeable one flowering and in leaf as it was so dense and it never harmed the plant..:dbgrtmb:

Mine is just starting to flower and has been in a pot for the past 3 years. Seems happy enough without any special care - but I will probably trim the roots and change some of the soil during the next dormant period.

    Hi

I know B&Q have a job lot on at the moment not a bad price either !!, I do have two one is a half standard and is abot 8 years old and that is now up to 12 ft and 4 feet across , very shalow rooting so I have to water well in the summer the other I have in a pot like Kevinm , they like a bit of shelter but apart from that very little maintenance I suspect yours may of dried out for a day or two that all it takes for this to die very quickly afterwards most probably one branch then the rest followed but its a beautiful bush in a pot or in the ground I would give it another go, grow on in a pot for a year or two then plant out when its bigger.
