Hi Conbrue I garden mostly in pots, the things I tend to grow are tubers, corms and bulbs, such as dahlias, begonias, lillies, anemones to name a few these come back every year if you dig them up and store them over winter, but sorry to say its too late to start them off now..

You could always pop to a garden centre and pick some of those things I mentioned, in flower and save them the same way, although it can get expensive. I'm trying a few other flowers, veg and fruit in pots and sacks too this year.. You could always opt for summer bedding like petunias, fuschia and pelargoniums for now which are pretty cheap wait till Sept and daffs/tulips and other spring bulbs will be in shops and plant them up, I found out this year it's great to have spring colour too. I'm trying to work on all round year colour for my pots now and I've found a pieris little heath and a skimmia japonica to be great little shrubs in pots which I bought last oct.. hope that helps you out a little bit

Edit. You can leave anemones and lillies in but they need dividing after couple of years
