I love swans, although they can be a "pain" sometimes when I'm fishing. I'm remember many years ago when fishing a frozen disused canal in Rutland with some friends, we'd had to break the ice to fish. Anyway, two swans decided to come in to land on the narrow tree lined canal, so being in the RAF and my friends being Air Traffic Controllers they decided to "talk" the swans in after they had a couple of aborted tries.:D So there we were "wind speed 8 knots, easterly, steady, steady, ILS active, undercarriage down, three greens, ice on runway, steady, steady" unfortunately the swans weren't listening and came in to land fast.
As soon as they hit the ice they lost flight speed and just spun around and around while heading for the end of the canal! Lots of feathers and hooting going in the air, but no damage done. Should have listened to our Air Traffic Controller.:D
