It is a lovely time of year on the moor - there are foals, calves and lambs everywhere.

I seriously wish the driving speed limit was a compulsory, enforced 30mph max. The current limit is 40mph and most drivers flaunt that terribly. Newborns are high casualties on the roads and it makes me furious. Would they allow such high mortality of our children outside schools with people using the roads as rat-runs at 70mph...?

I've not discovered Exmoor yet John - Dartmoor is so close to us that anywhere is within easy reach of a day trip - Exmoor is a bit more of a step out, but I have seen photos of it and it does look very beautiful.

Best time for foals is late April , May and early June. :)

Lovely photos Kath,I so wish I could just pick up that little foal and take him home with me:D

You should try Exmoor Kath, that too is a beautiful place that is why we keep going back.We love the Isle of White as well as Exmoor plus Scotland and the Lake District, but the latter two have their fair share of the wet stuff although Exmoor can be wild at times and Scotland would be better without the midges:D

Thanks for sharing the little fella with us and look forward to seeing more of your great photos:luv:

Thanks Peri and Kandy xx :luv:

Peri - I love horses in all shapes and sizes too. I went to Liverpool Uni Vet School not knowing one end of a GG from the other and loved them so much I came out with the Final Year Prize in Equine Studies!!!! I couldn't believe it, but I was totally inspired by these beautiful creatures and the Profs at Liverpool are amongst the foremost Equine Vets in the World - my Prof for surgery was Prof Barry Edwards - if you are into horses you may know him as the Colic Guru! Also I had Prof Derek Knottenbelt who invented his famous recipe for sarcoids cream!!!!

Let me know if you are ever coming down this way :)

Kandy - I bet I'd love Exmoor, Scotland and the Isle of Wight too - all I've never been to, except Scotland but that was just the city and no wildlife - not the animal variety anyway!

I also thought about bunging that foal in the back seat and running away with him, but I'd have to explain to James, who is in London until tonight, why there was a horse in the living room when he gets back!

My heart still lies in the Isle of Man and always will I think, but Dartmoor and Devon/Cornwall areas are now a very close second !

    Great pics cookie and Rosa.

Rosa, I did find it strange to see the barbed wire though, most horse owners favour electric fencing or post and rail as barbed can inflict particularly costly injuries to horses
