Thinking about the surplus tomato crop and others, and going on from this quite old thread:

    http://gardenerscorner.co.uk/forum/threads/preserving-our-surplus-tomatos.14336/

    from @Dave W

Wonder if anyone has a recommendation?

I'm looking at the Stockli timer model which is around £115 delivered from Amazon:
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Stockli-Dehydrator-With-Timer/dp/B000LR0GTC/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8

I know there are cheaper models, but I want something that will last and do a good job.

John I think that @Dave W does a lot of this type of preserving so it might be a good idea to ask for his views and recommendations before you spend a lot of money on this item:smile:

We have a Rommelsbacher DA759 dehydrator with extra trays thst cost ovr £100 quite a few years ago.

This is a copy that costs half as much and also has the option of purchasing extra trays http://www.amazon.co.uk/Bielmeier-6...p/B000TIYKNG/ref=cm_cr_pr_product_top?ie=UTF8 (Bielmeier also do cheap copies of Rommelbacher pateurising boilers and steam juice extractors). N.B. they need a plug adaptor - see reviews.

We've the Stockli without the timer, bought it about 4 or 5 years ago. It came with three trays (could add more) which are just about enough for our usage. I sometimes wish we'd bought the one with a timer as often the ideal drying period ends when we are in bed. I could of course use a normal plug-in timer switch.
