this isn't exactly a pleasant thread so don't eat and read:snork:

I just wondered if anyone new anything about food intolerances? I've noticed over the last few years that I have problems digesting certain foods but odd things :rolleyespink: for instance McVities Cheese Savories I cannot eat even a handful of these because about 15 minutes afterwards I am in pain with stomach cramps and bloating and well I don't need to go into details:redface: I also have the same problems with Takeaway pizza (domino's not the frozen stuff) and freeze dried Ramen noodles I also get headaches but not anything else from some chocolate especially expensive white chocolate but not with cheap stuff??? I also have quite bad Palmarplantar Psoriasis on my right foot and every now and then I will get a flare up on my hands which usually goes away as quickly as it comes.

is this perhaps all linked? I have tried steroid creams on my foot before but I had to stop using one because I started loosing feeling in my foot

    Food ingredients keep changing,
When you see what happens in the making of some foods, you would eat any thing
I left my job because of what was happening, some foods i wouldn't touch with a barge poll

When I was a teenager, I had to avoid corned beef. Then at some point I discovered that some corned beef was fine, while others would make me very ill (stomach cramps, vomiting, the other end, cold sweats - proper poisoning symptoms).

A well read friend of mine at the time remarked that there are two or three popular red food colourings. Some companies use one, some another, but one of them is a known allergen.

Nowadays, I have the strangest thing when I eat anything cooked in sunflower oil. My mouth some times literally burns, to the point where I get blisters. My nose swells so my breathing is restricted, and my whole head feels hot. The same food cooked in any other type of oil or fat is fine.

oh PPP that is so painful for you, it has similar effects of MIL PRP condition,
as the info you shared on your condition it does say that there are links between Gluten and flare ups
have you spoken to the dr it does sound like you may have IBS which certain foods can trigger headaches cramps wind and extreme toilet habits ( if you know what i mean)

just a thought it is worth checking :grphg:

Hi Aesculus it does sound like you have some kind of intolerances going on there or you are in the early stages of developing IBS..
Or you could be developing a wheat or dairy intolerance perhaps or it could be certain addatives in your foods as the ones you are describing will have some in them..

I think you should change your diet to a fresher diet & higher in fibre & cut certain foods out for a 2 week period then introduce one back into your diet & if it flares up you know to avoid it..!! Try that before you go to the docs if you like..

My OH has wheat dairy & yeast intolerance & there are a few things which get him.. Has to be careful with tomatoes.. You could see about a skin allergy test... No needles.. :WINK1: I think you will need to change your diet a bit mate.. :WINK1:

        Hi Aesculus

I agree totally with Marley - keep to simple, fresh foods as much as you can and stay away from snacks, processed stuff and sweets. A while back I was listening to a radio programme about food; a contributor said that the golden rule was never to eat anything your granny wouldn't have recognised as food (given your youth, you should probably make that your great-grandmother!). You might, of course, be reacting to something quite basic - like the tomatoes which Marley's OH has a problem with - but the simpler your diet, the less likely you are to get sick and the easier it will be to pinpoint what's causing the problem. Also, find out if any allergies run in your family. Many of OH's family have problems with fish and shellfish, for instance.

Oh, and I recommend Leslie Kenton's book 'The New Raw Energy'. It's not specifically for people with food problems, but it sets out a 'clean' diet containing lots of raw fruit and vege and tells you what to avoid. I always return to it when I'm feeling rubbish, and I always feel better after a week or so of sticking to it. :)

        Hope you feel better soon.

Thanks everyone I do have to point out that I don't regaurly indulge in Pizza and high saturated snacks such as the one above or chocolate for that matter but they were the few foods I could think of, off hand where I get a reaction :)

I could quite happily live off carrots and humus for some time :snork:

as to food allergies and food intolerances running in the family there aren't any :what: none. dad has hay fevered and mild cat allergies but nobody else in the family has anything although my brothers girlfriend is a celiac (of no relevance to me though...)

saying that my mum might have IBS... i'll ask in a bit maybe it's a vitamin deficiency then causing my skin condition?

Go & get a skin allergy test (allot of natural health places do them) then Aesculus & cut out the fast food completely for a few weeks at least then try one at a time & see if you can pinpoint it.... I know it is hard not to eat junk food in our busy lives today, but plenty of healthier choices are there.. As you say humus pittas falafals salad & humus are really quick for instance... Soups... Ready to eat fresh salads.. Loads of stuff mate... See how you get on..

I also played in the dirt Jack. Still sunflower oil does unpleasant things to me.

That said, I was also born asthmatic, and come close to death a couple of times when things that most people, including my own family, got too close (a pet rabbit was the closest thing ever to wiping me out, before anyone realised what was new the day I nearly completely lost the ability to breath). The GP didn't take it seriously but that's another story.

I agree that today's world of paranoia about cleanliness is knackering people's immune systems, but its not always that simple. I guess some people are just born with allergies. Such is life.

Incidentally, despite the asthma, I went on to be the fastest sprinter in my school, a keen cyclist clocking up miles that would put many to shame, and generally an all round fit chap. That came about purely because my dad refused to accept that his son was going to be dependent on an inhaler. I remember him losing his temper after my stupid spin-cap bust my lip yet again. He chucked it in the fire and then immediately put me on a very physical military inspired exercise regime. I don't know the science so I can't endorse it, but it worked for me. I've had full blown asthma attacks since, but its increasingly rare and manageable.

Well done you and your Dad
I realise there are lots of allergies, and if "I" Knew the answer I would be a very rich man
I will not go on my usual rants, but a lot of people find it is easier to have it than fight it, by about an additional DLA of £60pw

Best go to the Doc's and asked to get an allergy test to find out what exactly it is that you are allergic to.
It could be worse, you could be allergic to forums.

My daughter has a list as long as your arm of food allergies. She also suffers with allergies to other things.

Gelatine is one of the worst, it makes her face swell up and brings out sores on her lips.
Gelatine is used in many products, not just food. Capsule type pills are one, ironic really as she has to take medication for her allergies. It's also used in many ointments.

If she unwittingly eats or comes into contact with anything that triggers her allergies, taking antihistamines helps.

Alcohol is another allergy of hers. If she drinks anything other than vodka, it will put her in bed for a week with flu like symptoms and chronic back ache.

Aesculus try giving up bread. I've had symptoms the same as yours for a couple of years. A few months ago I changed from white bread to wholemeal because I thought that was the problem. I realised just two weeks ago that was making things worse. I've been eating Ryvita this week and the symptoms have practically gone. I don't think it's the wheat that's the problem, but yeast fermentation in my stomach. :)
