    Hi all,

I noticed this week that my forgetmenots appear to be sick. They've gone mouldy and are dying. Are they just dying back for the year or are they sick? Help much appreciated!

    Hi JaneyG,

If your forget me nots are the pale blue small flowered type then they are usually Annuals so are starting to die off.If you leave some of them then they will go to seed, which means they will get seed pods when the flowers die and when they are ripe you can sprinkle them round the garden where they will lie dormant until the Spring and then will grow and start the cycle all over again.:)

I am in the process of pulling up most of my plants now that they are going over but have left a couple of plants to get the seeds off of.

Hope this info is of some use to you:)

Thanks! That's a relief, I thought that they must be diseased. I shall certainly leave for now and then spread the seed around a bit. They are pretty. k-l

They may have mildew-I say this because that is exactly what happened to mine, a dusting with green sulphur should sort it out

careful when pulling them out. I uncovered a sparrow nest of wee ones when I was doing mine. I have no idea how I managed not to touch the nest........all at once there they were revealed to the world. I ran and got a wire mesh and some pine boughs and covered them until they could leave the nest and venture out on their own. I felt so darn bad......have to be careful in our gardens which provide such great living conditions for the little ones. :)

Ooh the poor things! Glad they were ok though, at least you made good and protected them!

God help anything small like that in our garden, we're overcome with fox cubs at the moment. They're digging holes and driving me nuts! Very cute tho...

Shall have a look for the sulphur power in the shops, ta!
