Yesterday my wife and I took advantage of the good weather and went off to Formby to see if we could catch a glimpse of the famous squirells. We weren't dissappointed as we saw five which is pretty good considering the ongoing squirell-pox outbreak which has resulted in a huge decline in numbers.

The ones we saw seemed healthy enough, chasing one another around the trunks of the pine trees and scampering from one treetop to another.

No pictures I'm afraid, my camera only has a x3 optical zoom and the images wouldn't have been that good.

Hi pip, even if you didn't get any pics of the squirrels, I think it is always great to catch a glimpse of them. I'm so pleased when I manage to, like this morning. No luck with pics either, they are just too quick.

I've not heard about the squirrel-pox outbreak. Hope it is soon over and doesn't kill them all off. Is it known how it broke out, was it brought in from the outside (the mainland)?

Oh excellent, I love Formby point. The dog loves the beach there too :wuvu:

Last time we went, only a couple of weeks ago, there was NO squirrels to be seen, we had a good look around the woods, it was a shame, the squirrel pox has really took hold, we normally see loads :(

I have to say the best bit for me however is the smell of the woods, I think it is divine, but maybe I am just weird
