Planted up some dahlia tubers last week, and as I was inspecting them I noticed something wriggling in the compost.

Tubers out and cleaned, compost binned and replaced with new.

The garden is going to get a drench of liquid killer this week.

They look awfully like vine weevil larvae to me.

Yup clue, vine weevil! They were squashed as soon as that pic was taken! Looked through my other pots and not seen any yet, but they'll be getting a drench of vine weevil killer anyway.

I've never seen them in a dahlia before but I found a left over begonia corm with VW in recently.

I think spreading poison over your entire garden is a bit of an over-reaction, as you will most likely find that there's only the occasional infestation and more probably in your posts than in the ground. I have dozens of pots but only find a few each year with larvae in.

It won't be on the entire garden, just the mass of pots and planters I have.
