I spied this plant a few years ago growing in a small allotment, it's owner was giving this allotment up and dug it up for me.
The flower spike grew to about 7ft tall for the two years I saw it, it's not flowered for me yet but has the beginnings I think.

And this is the whole plant in the Half Barrel.

I'm hoping for great things this year.

 7foot eh, exciting stuff. We bought 4 Foxtail Lilly bulbs although we were completely unfamiliar with them, we soon realised we had put them in pots that were far too small for them [IMG] We moved them to the garden a couple of weeks ago, they're very leafy, but not as big as yours yet Fred, but I hope ours flower too. Fingers crossed for us both [IMG]

Is that the one that smells pretty awful? I've been avoiding it for that reason, but I wouldn't mind seeing it! 7 ft is pretty big! :D

Here it is before it was moved, together with a close up of the flower spike.
Looking in the book I seem to remember it is the Gigantum Foxtail Lilly, normally they are about 4ft tall.

I don't think it has much scent but certainly not unpleasent.
