Hi Guys, a customer of mine in the UK is thinking about getting 2 or 3 chickens for fresh eggs, but I have noticed a family of urban foxes that live about 5 gardens away, do you think they would be much of a problem? Would be in secure coup and run and locked away at night, but urban foxes can be seen around the area in the daytime!

    regards pete

We've got farmland the other side of our street, foxes walk past our house of an evening, have seen the occasional stoat in the garden and rats are about wherever there's a food source, but our chicken run is secure with a slab base, mesh walls and further mesh under the plastic roofing (just in case a fox climbs on top, gnaws through the roofing, lowers a ladder, grabs the hens and exits the same way). Mice get in, but food and water are suspended above ground level so they can't touch it, and if they're stupid enough to venture inside during the day they wouldn't last long.

An Eggloo , from Omlet [I kid you not!], should be secure enough to keep Mr Fox out.

Deep pockets required though, unless you blag a second hand one.

I'd definitely recommend the slab flooring and the welded mesh in the run including the roof:dbgrtmb:
Better to be safe than sorry:chicken:

Our Eggloo Eglu is on the lawn and gets moved about - it has a mesh "skirt" that extends around the whole structure so Mr Fox et al cannot dig under it, which perhaps avoids the hard standing. Although if it was always in the same place perhaps hard standing would make for easier cleanliness?

Yes eglu is an expensive option, but can see the appeal to some people. There are so many options and can see the pro's and conn's for them both.
