    Hello All,

Chris here from North Wales - not posted on here before - long time lurker. I do like a good lurk [IMG][IMG]:)

I've moved into a new bungalow - tiered garden - heavy clay soil. But that's not why I'm posting on this occasion

I'm looking for some fragrant flowered plants - that I can plant outside my bedroom window in a container. Summer time, I always leave the window open at night. It would be lovely to have a perfumed waft in the warm Summer evenings.

    Any recommendations welcome.

    :ThankYou:

    Have a good 'un.:blue thumb:

Hi Clanless:sign0016: If you want annuals, there's Heliotrope, Petunia / Surfinia, Zaluskyana, Mignonette and Sweet Peas (climbing or bushy). I'd go for tender shrubs, though...Brugmansia or Cestrum nocturnum both have the most incredible scent in the evenings:wub2:

Thanks for the welcome everyone - lots of good recommendations :blue thumb:. I'll try a mix of the recommended plants in a large trough. Ebay here I come.

The bedroom faces East - not too good for a lie in - as the morning sun lights up the whole room!

It's going to take sometime to get the garden round (especially given the awful clay soil), so I've planted up a range of pots with spring flowering bulbs. I'm really looking forward to next Spring - it should be very colourful.

          Welcome to GC.

I would go with any of the above recommendations, but why e-bay, you could grow from seed, will be a lot less expensive, and you will know the plants have been looked after.

How much sun does it get? ie; is there a patio area outside the window so that the plant could be further away fro the house to get more sun? I ask because this Brugmansia grows next to the east facing wall of the shed.....................

Brugs are uber fragrant of an evening!

If I were being mischievous then I could say that this is fragrant .....................

Night Scented Stock for me too ... longest period of blooming amongst the various choices, I reckon. They look pants though ... so not brilliant if you want something that's a looker ... but ... at night ... tops :)

              A couple of scented bulbous plants that can be pot grown;

Acidanthera murieliae (buy the largest bulbs you can find) blooms late summer.....................

Hymenocallis festalis will need a good summer, but is outstanding! Bulbs need to be at least 70 to 80mm in diameter to bother with.....................

I can't think of anything more beautiful, fragrant, dramatic, easy and cheaply available than oriental lilies.

What Christo Lloyd referred to, I think, as "Keyhole Flowers" - due to the overpowering fragrance his view was that you should only have a keyhole of a closed door between you and the flowers!

Problem I have with most of these suggestions, from the O/P's PoV, is that they are going to be over in a couple of weeks :( although if there is space "round the back" a number of containers could be grown, for different seasons, and then moved into place when they are at their zenith.

That's asking a heck of a lot, to be fragrant and also last for many weeks. Lilies are brilliant for the "rotating containers" trick, though.

I think Christo was being an uncharacteristic wimp when he said that!
