Sorry if this topic has been discussed.

I noticed in the Mail that Francine Austin, David Austin the Rose growers wife has been spared jail for being drunk at the wheel and killing a young lady pedestrian who was walking her dog. Mrs Austin was given a 5 year driving ban and ordered to go to mental health hospital. You can read the story on the Mail online website.

    I bite my lip.

No sympathy for her at all..... Sorry if I offend anyone here.. Driving after the drinking of any amount of alcohol & killing someone should be an immediate life ban from driving with a 10yr minimum prison sentence per person that was killed.. With no eligability for parole..... Whoever you are...!!!!!!!

Yeah, but if she's been detained under the mental health act, that could mean she never gets out.

How about driving while altering the radio station, or with the sound up so loud you cant think straight, or driving while on the phone, or having an argument with the passenger, or the kids.
Its all going to take your mind off the road.
I could have two pints and still drive better than quite a few of the lame brains I see on the roads.
        Then there are drugs.

I'm not up on this particular case but I often think far too much emphasis is put on drink driving, I emphasise"drink driving" rather than "drunk driving", its all part of the health and safety culture that we are living in today.

My Brother-in-law was hit by a car walking home from country pub/nightclub late one night. He survived, but only just. After the collision the driver braked and slowed down but drove off. The driver had been drinking in the same pub and quite drunk but he was a stranger and nobody knew him, or the people he was with. CCTV showed the car leaving the car park but the number plate couldn't be read. He was never caught.
I wonder somtimes whether some people have any common sense or a conscience.

People think it's very odd that I still don't drive but I know I have very poor spatial judgement and I just don't think I could live with myself if I caused an accident by being daft. To judge from some of the treetreetrees who speed down my little road regularly, it's not something which bothers everyone.

            Drunk driver number one.

            Drunk driver number two.

And the space he managed to fit his van into after a skin full at the Hambridge Lamb & Lion.

The first drunk had been advised to stop drinking about 7pm as he had the car at the pub. He was so lashed up at 9pm that he couldn't stand properly when he decided to not walk the 20 minutes back home & took his car to smash my front garden up.

            His name is Jody Pearce.

The second drunk only lives 2 minutes away from the pub. Its not the first time he's written a van off on his way home.

This time he was very appologetic & told me he loves me both times I picked him up off the floor.

His name is Gareth Stevens and he owns the Game Farm behind me.

Can't wait to sell up here & move back to Civilisation.

when I was younger (18-23), I often got totally 'phished' and used to drive long distances after parties etc, .... with passengers in my car ...

we never had breatherlizers etc in those years

now that I am older and think back, I get 'shudders', as many times, I cannot even remember leaving the party/venue

luckily, I never had an accident .... but some of my mates did

I also used to ride a Yamaha XT500 scrambler .... many times I could not even stand, but I never ever fell off my bike
