If anyone is growing their Toms, Peppers etc in large pots you can cut your costs by scrounging freebies. My dad suggested florists but all ours had posh galvanised looking things. However good old Somerfield gave me a doz (about 12") which their flowers had come in and they just throw afterwards. I'm sure others supermarkets must do the same, and it's environmentally friendly too.

Must admit I keep eyeing up the flower tubs in our local Tesco. I must ask some day. They are about 12" square.
I have (twice) salvaged some decent large pots from our local "vertigrow" They now have three large containers for people to recycle their used pots from plant purchased at the nursery.

I have been using the plastic pots from bought plants for years-all you need is a cheap pack of acrylic paints, a couple of brushes and plenty of time on your hands.

Those brand spanking new planters from florists don't look as new once you give them a coat of nitromors for the night either.
