    • Next day delivery: FREE
    • Next day AM delivery: £5

N.B. This is for orders not exceeding 200 Kg, so wouldn't be usefull for bulk buying bags of compost, buy may be helpful to those who dont have their own vehicle, or have trouble unloading large bags of compost, etc., or simply save some time and fuel.

Multiple sub 200 Kg offers should be possible, but could mean missing out on bulk multi saves.

To save a wasted visit to store, you can order online or check online whether items are eligible for one hour delivery, for example look below the blue click and collect button to see whether free one hour delivery applies Wickes Multi-Purpose Compost 70L | Wickes.co.uk I wonder whether 4 x 70L bags would weigh less than 200Kg because there's a buy3 get 1 free offer? You would find out before authorising payment.

Do you know someone a mile away from you? Order it for delivery there and then they can tell the driver its the wrong address and redirect them to you? (well, it *might* work :heehee: )

And collect from their house, saving the cost/time of a 30 mile round trip?

:ideaIPB: @Linz How far is your allotment from the nearest Wickes?

Awesome idea @"M" !! Thanks did not think of the OH's house!!

Allotment is literally 5 minutes down the road (lane). If there wasn't a row or 2 of houses in front I would see it!

Just tried again with OH's address which is 12.8 miles from the Caerphilly store. 8 bags.. still £7.95 delivery, so thought it was due to weight, changed to 4 bags still £7.95. I give up.

I'll drive to Homebase in Brecon, £2.42 for 60 litres. Working it out roughly, I can get 14 bags and the diesel used to get there and back should average around the amount I'd pay for 8 bags from Wickes.

I weighed some Wickes potting compost 6 years ago (that's the sort of thing I do, and it was the first/only UK hit from a Google search for 'weight of potting compost') ...

              That's only 0.26Kg/L

Their bags are now 70L and are a different formula, but 4 x 20 Kg = 80 Kg, far less than their 200 Kg max weight, they must have the wrong weight(s) in their database!

I've just weighed a couple more bags of MPC:

              50L Gro-sure = 17Kg (dry from under cover) = 0.34Kg/L
30L Jack's Magic = 20Kg (torn bag left in the open which got about as wet as possible) = 0.67Kg/L

              4 x 70 x 0.67Kg/L = 187.6Kg - Are Wickes hosing down their compost before delivering it?

P.S. Might take my smallest scales and check a bag, I've got 2 bathroom scales used for gardening, one rucksack size and some 'giant' ones for weighing Marrows and Pumpkins, plus some Salter scales and a tripod for more accurate measurements.

That was my thoughts, have they bumped the weight up? I can normally manage a 70L bag of any make compost but know I can't lift much more than 25kg. Hmm. Strange!

On a side note Lidl have got their gardening stuff in 2nd March. £1.99 for 40L. It's a lot closer than Brecon..
