    Hi everyone.

I decided to give Freecycling a go. I posted in my local group yesterday evening asking for any plants and got a reply from someone only 20 minutes away saying they had some plants I could help myself to. What I didn't realise was that she was happy for me to clear out her garden as it's being re-landscaped once they've completed an extention to the house. She also had a large rockery with some lovely stone and alpine (I think!) plants.

After making sure she wasn't going senile I proceeded to fill the boot with as much as I could. Here are a couple of pictures now that i've transplanted them to my garden ...

I grabbed masses of the plants in the second, fourth and fifth pictures and have dotted big clumps in different parts of the garden. I'm going back in a couple of days to grab even more plants and as much stone as I can. I've always wanted a rockery.

    Yay for Freecycle! :D

    Ant.

I have been using Freecycle for ages and thus far have had a water butt, loads of pots and some cobbles for my water feature, all from different people. I might add that I have also offered and replied to numerous and got rid of things I though were crap. Someones always has a use for anothers rubbish.
    Welcome to Freecyle Ant ;)

    Yup. Freecycle is brilliant.:thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb::thumb:

Trying to think what we have got from some lovely folks...erm lets see. A mountain bike, rabbit hutches, wardrobe, guitar, beautiful display cabinet, plants, dish washer, garden fencing, oh yea, a fish tank as well.

Like Nut, we have give away a lot of stuff...but much better than it going to land fill or the tip.

Trouble is, no one seems to have a Ferrari...but you can't have everything can you!!!

Well done Ant you did do well it would indeed have been a great shame if those plants hadn't found a new home and no better person could have received them than yourself.:thumb:

The only problem we find with Freecycle is that some people do try to get things just to sell on which is a big NO, NO in my book, I know it shouldn't matter who gets what but we would prefer someone needed an item instead of wanted it...if you get my meaning?

I wanted to put up our 20 inch remote TV on Freecycle but Bob saw how many people were using Freecycle for numerous things that was surely not for their own use so I ended up asking around the estate if anyone needed one. Our lovely next door neighbour (not cat woman!) was delighted to be asked as they had only one TV in their household and her teenage daughter was over the moon to get herself a TV for her room. Now that's what Freecycle should be all about putting a smile on someone's face and not for making money out of!Hel.xxx.

Hear hear Helen. I hate the people just grabbing things cause they're free and they can sell them.

Well done Anthony. The plants on our freecycle go really quick here.

I've had a double bed, pine table, chairs, sofa, puter desk, and some worktop sections. I've given away 3 fridge freezers, a dishwasher, 2 puter desks, 2 greenhouses and loadsa little bits.

Actually, I don't mind that. Personally, I hate car boot sales and would rather go and poke myself in the eye with a pitch fork than spend a Sunday morning trying to flog my junk for some paltry sum. If someone else helps me to clear the junk out of the attic / shed etc, and can be bothered to go and sell my junk: good luck to them. I applaud their entrepreneurial spirit. It's still keeping stuff out of landfill one way or another, isn't it!

    Thanks for the response everyone.

Firstly, sorry for not replying sooner but i've had a miserable two days at work (grumble, grumble!) so decided to use the two days of annual leave I'd left and take the rest of the week off. (Yay!)

I thought i'd post a couple more plants that I picked up early this morning from a lovely lady just 30 minutes away ...

A big terracotta pot of Day lilies.

I've already called someone about a free greenhouse. I'm third in the line but I explained that i'm free all of today and tomorrow so i'm hoping that may count in my favour. Fingers crossed as i'd love a greenhouse.

Wow what a great find, nice one! This has inspired me to sign up to my local freecycle, I've never tried it before.

    Hi plantlife.

I'd certainly recommend it, after all the worst that would happen is that you get no responses. I've just split what I think is the Helebore into three seperate plants. I'm not sure if you're supposed to do that but I thought i'd give it a try.

Fingers crossed they don't die on me! :D

    Hi everyone.

The free greenhouse has been withdrawn as they've decided to sell it instead. Bummer! :D
