Here's my latest find on freecycle; 20 slightly curved pieces of nicely weathered sandstone blocks, all undamaged and about 2ft in length :dancy::hapydancsmil:, I've got a few ideas what to do with them so just got to make my mind up now :)

They look interesting, Bilbo. :hate-shocked: I'd probably make a great base out of it for a Sundial or Birdbath.:snork::coffee:

Been playing around with the stones today and come with this circular wall that will look great around my new bird table when I've built it, it can then be filled with top soil/compost and planted up :)

Are you going to bed the stones with lime mortar mixed with compost and encourage succulents like Stonecrop to grow out of the joints? :)

I dunno about you but I've found in the year that I've been using my bird table/ feeders the amount of spilt seed that has germinated underneath on the ground that I've had to pull up frustrating. I'd plant it up with some shrubs and then stick a weed membrane on top with a mulch if you were to put the table in middle.

This is my only slight concern but hopefully as I'm planning on making a bigger bird table than I have now any spilages will mostly miss the area below :)

Update....well the extra large bird table is under construction, reckon its big enough to feed ostriches off :lunapic 130165696578242 5:, but I like the way it's coming along and it hasn't cost a penny, all reclaimed/free wood

Well due to being so busy this bird table project has taken a little longer than expected but today I had some free time and got to work, it is now nearing completion, the stone surround will be planted up in due course, just not decided what with yet :)
