Has anyone grown them before? and if so are they difficult to grow. I love them and was thinking of getting some. [IMG]

    Hello The Pea of Sweetness

I have grown them for a number of years. Must admit that I didn't have much luck in England (Buckinghamshire) with them but they go berserk here in Portugal. I actually brought my initial bulbs over from England. I have them in the rockeries and in a large pot and they seem to double in quantity each year!

Even though the packaging said they bloom in August (or thereabouts) they actually bloom in February and March here so mine are long over but what a display I had. At one point I had three vases of them in the house - what a smell! My sweet peas finished last month (I plant them in November) so now I'm at a loss for scented flowers for the house .... I haven't got enough roses yet!

I think you should at least have a try with the freesias, even if in a pot, but make sure it's a sunny location.

    Good luck!

Hello Lady of Leisure ...you may already have these in your garden, but if not they offer fragrance and beauty either in the garden or as a cut flower ..... and will grow well in Portugal as they do here .....

    Giant Fragrant Lilies
    Pinks
    Bergamont

just an idea for you .... [IMG] M-L

Thanks for that, i already have the Lily's and Pinks but not the Bergamot. I've got 2 Jasmine plants which give off the most beautiful fragrance ever. Love it. Maybe an idea for your garden?

p.s the picture of my poorly tree is on there now. [IMG] [IMG]

    Bon soir, Mona Lisa

Thanks for the suggestions. I used to grow the giant fragrant lilies in England but got fed up with the pollen getting everything and I found it virtually impossible to remove from materials.

I have pinks but not enough to pick. My carnations (from seed two years ago) were lovely this year but have now finished.

I haven't tried Bergamot but will investigate this one at my various garden centres I frequent!

The Pea of Sweetness - I have various Jasmines here but the scented ones have finished and I must admit were a disappointment this year!

    Cheers for the input.

    Tchau!
