My mother used to, back in the '70s. She spent all day doing it ... or so it seemed to me at the time!

I have always been advised to do it by my wife [and blanching] it takes no time to make sure.

It might not be right but I don't blanch any vegetables that I want to freeze. I just freeze it.

i.e. carrots- cut it into pieces, Pepeprs - chop into small pieces, chop the spinach,
fresh ginger - chop it up or co****ly grind, hot chillies - cop or co****ly grind.....and just put it in freezer bags and freeze it.

I reckon. Although I'm pretty sure my Mother just gave up in the end ... but better to blanch them if you are not sure.

I don`t grow veg myself-or rather none that I would be prepared to eat until my skill has improved, but my grandad used to, and my nan always blanched them-something about keeping the colour true on them or something. I don't remember her saying anything about the taste or edibility.
