French bean question

    Hi all

    We've got some dwarf French beans and they've produced pods... trouble is we went away on holiday and when we got back the pods had grown to the point where they're now very fat and bulging with beans. I assume they're too mature to be eaten as green beans, but I've heard that the beans can be eaten as 'flageolets'... what do I do with them in this case? Just shell them and boil them for a bit? Or do I have to dry them? Any advice would be greatly appreciated! :)

    Shell and boil as 'flageolets' / 'haricots vert' or dry them as haricot beans a la Mr Heinz's baked beanz:)

    Keep a pile for next years planting...will save you buying new...as well as what Dave said.:thumb:

    My runners this year are from seeds collected from last year's crop (like my Dad taught me!). Question - is it a good thing to keep on indefinitely using one's own seeds from the previous year. Apart from seed potatoes, are there any other standard veggies that should only be produced using commercially produced seeds?

    Very much enjoying this site (and learning).
