I have a Lavendular stoechas Papillon in a patio tub. I have been told that this needs protection in the winter months. I do not have a greenhouse yet, but would it be OK to place this plant inside my timber summerhouse now that the frosts have started? It is not heated, but it would keep the cold westerly winds from the plant. Would I need to water it, should I cut the foliage back? All replies greatly welcomed thank you.

Hmmmm. It'll need as much light as possible during the winter - will that be possible in your timber summerhouse? The compost should be kept just damp and assuming that you've already trimmed the dead flowers off, leave it until March or April next year before cutting it hard back.

French lavender is a wee bit sickly, I find, so don't be surprised if it looks a bit manky during the winter.

I always took cuttings from mine, as they tended to get a bit leggy and woody, so maybe take a few, and have them on a windowsill, just incase it doesn't appreciate your tlc!

Many thanks for advice and suggestions on caring for French Lavendar. I have been ill myself, so hope to get back to the garden this weekend. I just hope it won't be too late as we have already suffered from some heavy frosts.
