I've just dug out and turned the soil for a new flower bed. I've mixed a fair amount of leaves in with the soil to help break down the clay. I have a friend who works in a stable and can supply me with horse manure. Can i add it straight to the soil or do i have to wait some time first? I will probably start planting bushes and flowers in the spring time so i'm hoping that the soil will be good enough by then.

Good evening John if it were me I would for now just spread it over the top of the soil and then dig it in next Feb/March time

If you have a clay problem @john wood ash from bonfires is also good for breaking up clay soil:smile:

Thanks for the advice Wiseowl and Kandy :blue thumb: Kandy, funny enough i've recenly had a couple of bonfires and have been mixing it into the clay. I didn't know if it would do any good, it was just an on the spur of the moment idea, but now that you suggested it, i know i'm on the right track
