Latest stupid, but expensive idea from those that create road chaos.
    http://www.itv.com/news/meridian/story/2015-08-07/the-friendly-face-of-new-road-signs/

Any thoughts?????? as to me it would be just another wind up having to look at this kind of rubbish while crawling through roadworks.

I know in many cases the works might be essential, but making sure that there is someone actually working there at all times would be a start, rather than rubbing it in, as these signs tend to do.

I dont really give monkeys, whos dad works there, in all cases, I just with they would pull their finger out and get it done as fast as possible.

I would find them a wind up too @pete - I am no genius, but I consider myself to be intelligent enough to work out that the people working on the roads are almost certainly someone's mother/father/son/daughter etc etc.

The one thing I do think should be changed about road signs is that they should give real information, such as "There are no people working here because we are waiting for concrete to harden" etc...

Hell, they could even have really honest ones like "We are all in the porta-cabin playing cards because it is chucking it"

What struck me was this sentence...

Tens of thousands of pounds is being spent on teams of psychiatrists to come up with new signs to reduce frustration. [IMG]

Wouldn't it be cheaper/just as advantageous to have carried out market research and asked the public what they thought?

I also find it a wind up. The last thing most drivers care about is who the people 'working' on the road are! We just want them to get on with it.

It would be cheaper to spend the said monies on Night shift working to complete the job in the quiet hours

Given that we are said to live in a nanny state, it wouldn't surprise me if they are thinking of signs like

"did you turn off the gas?"

              and

"don't forget to contact your parents...they gave birth to you"

I regularly crawl past miles and miles of coned off lanes - with not a soul in site !
I think the road signs that state the bleeding obvious will be aimed at the BMW drivers

Jack it is not technically possible for an alternator to supply power to indicators , horn and flashing head lamps at the same time . So beemers went for the latter two :snork:

It's an expense when the ' men working sign' was sufficient, were it true that they were working. However, they have been given money to spend and instead of spending it on what is necessarily the condition of the roads they prevaricate with road sign messaging...........that's wasted money and time. Get on with the real job of improving roads!

They were all up (and indeed down) the M1 back in January, I thought they were aimed at trying to make you go more slowly myself. And I drove up to Leeds on the Friday and back on the Saturday and saw nobody in nearly 60 miles each way of roadworks. Completely unnecessary to do that amount at the same time.
