Found this creature on my lawn today. Not sure whether it's a frog or toad. I have no idea where it came from and I've not seen one in my garden before.

Frogs have quite smooth skin and toads have bumps on them. That's the easiest way I know to tell.

Frog. Toads look like Hass avocados; dark and warty!

        Frog.

For some reason I hardly see any toads around gardens these days, when I remember seeing loads in my parent's garden many years ago, but there's loads around my edge of village veg plot.

        Another victim of slug pellets?

I don't think I'm any the wiser as it didn't move apart from twitching a leg.

        Thanks all. :)

T'other half liked this and said that if toads look like avocados then frogs look like limes .. his nickname for me is Frog ... doh! ... I hasten to add that is because of the sunglases I wear (but I call him Toad .. beause he is) but one of his evening tipples is vodka and lime (from our own lime tree) ... :heehee:

Heres a photo of a toad I found in my garden a couple of years ago, I've got lots of frogs but very rarely see a toad, maybe they are much better at hiding.

I have a toad in the greenhouse , I was watering the plants and somthing moved in a daylily pot and then crawled out , I had a look today its back in the pot and just its little face pocking out of the soil, the day lily in the pot is meant to be "fickle lady" so I have nick named it fickle its about half the size of the one in the picture

It is or was definitely a Common Frog, it has long hind legs and toes, ear drums are prominent and as already mentioned, smooth skin.

Toads can jump, my Fire Bellies can jump a foot high.
