Hello everybody, just wondering if anybody else has found frogspawn in places other than a pond?
This is our second Spring in this garden and last year we had loads of spawn in the pond. This time there's nothing in the pond (so far) but we've found several clumps on hard surfaces - paths, kerbs and in a flower bed.
Is this something that happens generally? Or have we got some confused frogs?

A few years ago I found some in a small puddle on my path. I don't have a pond so put it in a large plastic storage box, filled with rainwater. It was fascinating to watch them grow and develop.

I had a lot in my pond this year, but I also have an old building site tank that is full of water and I've got some spare pond plants in it.
Not easy for frogs to get into, so I've found large amounts of frogspawn just on the ground around the tank.
I scooped up as much as I can and put it in the water but it's funny old stuff to get hold of.

On rocky outcrops near the top of hills - even when the small lochan is fifty feet away. I think I brought a little of that home in my flask that day!
In puddles on rough access routes to hills- the puddles often dry up before they get a chance to develop, although it's often loads of tadpoles that I see.
It's just how it is sometimes, and I assume it's why they produce so much spawn.

That’s my concern @fairygirl , that it would be too late when I found it

A few years ago I'd cleaned out a gravel tray and left it on the patio. It rained a lot of the next few days and when I went out there was a load of frogspawn in there. I lifted the cover off the stormwater drain and poured it down there. It couldn't stay where it was and we didn't have a pond. I thought that gave it the best chance of at least some of it surviving.

Several years ago on a walk around Derwent Water Reservoir and after the usual downpour amongst the limestone path (I could be wrong about the limestone??)

We were fascinated to come across rain puddles containing loads of little wriggling taddies !!!!!!

We stood for ages watching and hoping they didn't get squashed under foot .We went a few weeks later after the usual 3 weeks of wet weather and no sign of them but loads of little frogs !!!:spinning:

There was a swimming pool at my old French house. One year toads laid spawn in it. I fished it out and put it in the pond. I wonder why they used the pool instead of the pond?

Are you not familiar with toads customs  have you not heard of this before ?

Its the French toads share and share alike ( french toadies tradition ...... ?:what: )

this happens every 100 years or so as  in the toadies share and share alike french toadies tradition and you ve followed it by taking your share to the pond to go forth and multiply :wub2: :pathd::dbgrtmb:.

Good on you my friend :yay: :yahoo:
