From squat to cock a leg

Toby, the German Shepherd is growing a pace. Has the odd accident - like most children. Currently limping a bit 'cos he got his foot trapped in the gate railings.... Some adult teeth growing through now and he weighs 23 kg so he's no longer a wee pup.
However, the greatest concern is this "girlie " habit of squatting to do a pee. His owner wants to see him do it proper like. You know, tree marking stuff and all that. When does it happen? Do they have to see other dogs do it? Would appreciate your experienced advice please,

No - he's too young and they don't intend to have him done. He's a very affable and relaxed dog who shows no malice at all,

Reggie does both & he started doing it by himself, he didn't have to see another dog doing it, it came naturally. We had him 'done' after he started with the cocking reflex, he's 50/50 with what he does. A friend had her fella done before he started cocking his leg and he's never developed the reflex & always squats
