There was an interesting article in last month's Garden magazine about front gardens becoming car parks. I must admit to being one of the culprits having had our frontage paved and gravelled recently. We have some pots and a couple of window boxes but that's all in the front.
We're lucky enough to have a large south facing back garden which our living room overlooks so I don't feel too bad about the front. Anyone got any ideas about making the front look gardeny while accommodating the family's vehicles?

    Fraid our fronts the same

Although it was mostly gravel with a few tubs and an ornamental windmill in the middle, so it wasn't too much devastation to accomodate the cars

thats right hand side of the path that leads to the house from the gate...the left hand border side of the path is still very well planted and like you I also have a few tubs and boxes under the front window.....I also added 2m fan trellis's each side of the front door, so its not too bad

I'm really lucky to have space for a carport at the side of my house so I can have both - a real luxury as it's not a big house. But it still challenges my ideas in respect of having pots and stuff. Keep hearing the same thing on the gardening progs about "kerb appeal" and it strains my designer capabilities! Still, I'm not acutally planning to sell up yet a while!!!

Besides designing the borders of your front garden to green up the front, either with containers or a border including perhaps a small tree or two at the front edge - why not try a border between where the wheels go with low growing spreading thymes and such - like the alpine bed in this months Garden.

Me I park my campervan in the front, but I am lucky there is still room for a rose garden - cos my car is parked in the street - until such time as find it another home.
