My front garden is a total mess with an overgrown meighbours hedge, plastic grass and crumbling walls. SWMBO has told me, its time to get it sorted as she is fed up of the eyesore when looking out the window…..

So this is the holding post that i will update as i go along. Today i placed an order for 500 bucks of timber. So watch this space as they say.

    The Beginning.

Thanks for the welcome….just been here around 4yrs lol

The left hand bush will be cut back to the neighbours fence and then 1.8mtr feather edge fence built. Down the front wall i will build a 5ft feather edge fence inside the brickwork, before knocking down said wall and feather edging the other side.

The inside walls will be removed, lifting the plastic grass. Will then level the garden using sleepers and adding a rose bush in the middle and a new lawn around said rose bush. New gate will then be fitted before adding a bound gravel path across the front of the house and down the side, before building a bin store.

something along those lines anyway lol

Sorry, thought you were a newbie! Didn't check on your profile stats.

Your plan sounds good to me, if hard work, so good luck with it and look forward to seeing progress.

Good luck with it @Welshman. It's one of those situations where you just get used to something, and then suddenly it's a case of 'I really need to do something about that because it's awful!'
I hoep the weather's favourable for you to get the fencing and the hard landscaping bits done. That helps enormously, especially if you're concreting posts etc.

Re your feather edge timber - I just bought some for renewing the sides of my shed. B&Q had an offer on it, and I was really lucky and just got in there before it ended. Saved me a nice little bit of dosh. It gives a nice effect
Will you paint it, or do you prefer the natural look?

Got all my timber from the local sawmills, so im all good for the feather edge, posts and rails.
Re-painting….im keeping the feather au-natural for now until it grey and the oils seep out, then we will see if we want to paint it at a later date.

Yes - I'd normally use a timber/builders' merchant for a large quantity of timber @Welshman, but I only needed a small amount, and delivery would have made it more expensive. The place I could have gone to for collecting it didn't have the right thing at the time either.

Look forward to seeing your progress :)

                That's a good bonfire right there @Welshman !
It's surprising how quickly a space can be transformed though. It'll be great in another month. :blue thumb:

For the first few years, nothing at all…. Its all treated timber, once it greys and weathers then i will decide, but thats a few years away yet.
