I don't know if it is a EU Directive or what (I can't find anything,, but all of a sudden we cannot buy Frontline from our Pet/Animal Feed stores and was referred to our Vet. Our Vet has said the cats must now have an examination before they prescribe it!!! small balls to that as they 'overcharge' in our opinion for it anyway by 5 or 6 Euros for 3 and why should we pay 29 Euros for an exam? Fortunately we can get it at our Pharmacies.

Is anything like this going on in the UK?

Now isn't that odd. You can't get it at the Chemist and we can't get it at the Pet Stores!

I had Frontline for Bella two years ago in Pets at Home, when she caught flees from a stray cat. They sent it every month by post and I paid by direct debit.
There was no examination or anything like that.

However, the flees disappeared, and since the drops caused bald patches in her fur where it was put on, I decided no terminate the deliveries.
Bella is free from flees again now and doesn't wander or come into contact with any other cats so all should be well.

I don't actually think I've seen pet things sold in chemists around here ...

My Milly is in the Healthy Pets Club at the vets. You pay monthly and get flea and worming treatment...to do at home once a month...2 consultations a year, annual flu vacc, nail clipping as required and 10% off any other requirements.

Do you have Amazon where you live victoria? I've heard that before about cats having to have a check up for it.

No. Can't use UK any more but can use Germany, Spain, France, Holland ... but post is extortionate. We get it from the Pharmacy for 20 Euros for 3 pipettes which is fine. Just querying why we cannot get it from Pet stores now.

Oh ok, it's probably become more restricted for some reason in pet stores. We don't use that product but get a cheaper one with the same ingredients online through a vet website.

rarely I put any flea protection on my cats, they just do not get fleas. they do not need those chemicals in their system. I check their fur often. If your cat is totally indoors they do not need any flea protection. Have one last one now, she stays outdoors, check her often, she is good to go. I keep her house blankets changed and washed often.

We have had two cats with Flea Fever here. They were very ill and had to have blood transfusions. We don't take chances living in the country.

I remember when I had my dog and I let the flea treatment lapse, she ended up with a tapeworm that was resistant to a lot of the common worming tablets.
                      Apparently fleas can carry tapeworms.
                      I wouldn't do that again.
