My Fuchsias are looking very bedraggled, is there any advantage or harm in giving them a little prune now , or do I have to wait till APril?

Tattie, don't wait till April, if you need to cut them back you can do it now particularly if they have ceased flowering though some will carry on in mild weather. By April some Fuchsias will have started putting on new growth so do it before then.:)

Aye, at least cut back the half way now, and further in the spring.

it depends on which variety and how tough they are, the normal F. megallanica, in a fairly mild area, will be ok, with the less hardy varieties, and in colder areas then it's best to wait until after the frosts.

trailers are ok on the ground if you give them something to trail over-hazel sticks etc. It works with clematis.

Trailing fuchsias tend to be more tender, so might need lifting and overwintering somewhere frost free!

I reckon they ought to be potted up, although they won't want much water, they won't want to dry out either (they don't have fleshy-roots, like Dahlias)

Hya wee tattie I have just finished cutting back all my fushias today I cut mine down to about 3ins from the top of the compost same with my trailers but I take them out of the baskets and pot them up in the cold greenhouse, If you want to, the cuttings you have cut off can go into a sheltered spot in your garden some of them will take root ready for next year, dont do what I do every year I put the cuttings in bottom of the garden and forget to name them
