As usual from me , not the greatest of photos - just used my mobile. Digging out a Red Robin shrub , I noticed this white fungus type growth around the roots - bottom left quarter of photo. Is this just normal decay spores ? There does seem to be some rotting roots in these flower beds from somewhere.

    TIA

Not a clear picture Harry but I sense there is nothing to worry about.
Are you digging out a Red Robin that has died or is dying? Or was there something else nearby that was removed, died, etc.?
Anything decaying will produce fungal growths......I removed the roots of a large shrub (Eleagnus) last year after removing it some 4 years ago. There were, and expected, remains of rotting wood.
For me, yes, normal decay spores and I wouldn't overthink this Harry :)
Be interesting to read any others' views or experiences about this :)

Thanks beehappy and Verdun , The red robin was OK I am just moving it . I think it is just normal fungal decay possibly from some bark chippings that got mixed in with the planting. Nothing to worry about.

Think you're right Harry, not something I would worry about......lots of harmless decaying matter in the soil :)
