    Hello everyone
I removed an old shed and found furry white balls on the branches of the tree trapped behind. Please can anyone tell me what it is and how to get rid?
    Thank you

    Hi You have Scale.

Its a insect with a hard cover on the top, should either brush off or wash off with the hose

The lime trees were I work are covered in them.

Looks more like Mealy Bug or Woolly Aphid to me. Treat with a systemic insecticide.:dbgrtmb:

looking at the first pic I would agree with Dai but on seeing the second I agree with Spruce, it's scale.

not sure a hose will wash it off, I would attack it with a stiff brush. You could try a systemic insecticide but would try the physical attack first.

    eugh *shudder*.. I hate bugs!!!!

Many thanks for your replies and help. I was very shocked when I first saw the tree having never seen anything like that before. It has now had a good brushing and hosing down. Will spray with insecticide when the summer comes!!! Thanks again

I would keep an eye on it. My acer had scale and I was just scraping them off, but it took years to completely clear it... and it wasn't that bad at all.

Might want a feed too as they will be draining the poor thing.
