garden gnome poppy

I'm new to gardening. I've just got a poppy in a small pot. I'd like to keep it in a container. Any advice on correct container and how to look after it would be great.

 

Welcome to Gardeners Corner. Have you any idea what sort of poppy it is? If it's Papaver it could grow up to 5ft tall in which case it will need support. How big is the pot? A picture would help if that's possible please.
