garden help

hi can anyone plz help my with my gardening problem.i moved into a house last year and it had a lovely garden with lovly green grass.but this year the grass has all gone and now theres nothing but a load of dirt out there.i have brought 2 lots of grass seed and put it down but nothing has worked.can anyone help plz

 

As Palustris has said - check what is under the top layer of soil.

 

The fact that the grass was once green gives you some hope.

hi thanks for the help.my next door neighbour has a big fern tree in her garden and we wondered if that had anything to do with it.as the soil is very dry no matter how much you water it
