Can anyone recommend a good piece of software for planning a garden? The ones I've looked at are a bit transatlantic..
    Thanks

      Hi

      What are your requirements?
Do you intend to use it often, need to draw up complicated gardens including lots of landscaping and of course what is your budget?

I know very little about gardening but do lots of DIY ranging from decking to building walls, plumbing and so on.
I find Inkscape very well suited to a myriad of disciplines but has a steep learning curve.
On the plus side it's freeware and very good for scaled drawings once one builds up a nice "library".

If however you just need some software for the occasional "tinker" then look at a reasonable free online one (nothing needed to be downloaded to your computer, works in your web browser) here:
      http://smallblueprinter.com/garden/planner.html
There are some restrictions for the online version (like not being able to save) but you can print it and also create a screen dump along with dimensions so it may suit your needs.

Below is a screenshot of an example garden:

Interesting topic indeed. I have tinkered with some online software but they didn't quite have the range of plants I was after. I shall try the link above.

I've looked at a few over the last year. I just use Microsoft Excel or pen n paper instead.
