Can anybody recommend a garden planner, preferably free, wanted not so much for planning as keeping a record of what is where, names of varieties etc.

    hi mike
why don't you open a folder in your pc
and all your information will be at your
fingertips i do it and it's simple then
to research things like times of sowing
    planting out and so on

There's one on the bbc's gardening pages if you have a ferret about. Haven't used it extensively though.

If you have microsoft excel/word/powerpoint, you can do simple drawings on there fairly easily too.

I agree with Claire. I use Excel, and have a spreadsheet with Common Name, Latin Name, Colour, Flowering Time, etc. I sometimes use Microsoft Paint to create pictures, but I'm not very good at that! I have a folder containing all my plant pics from digi-cam. If you don't have Excel you could design your own similar table with good old fashioned pen & paper. [IMG]

Being a devout lazysod I was looking for something half done, so all I had to do was enter the plant names in their relevant positions in the garden, so that when the labels get lost or become illegible I still know what's where.
We already have a binder with print outs for each room of the house detailing carpet dimensions, number of rolls of wall paper, make and colour of any paint or emulsion and similar details. Just want to extend it to cover the garden.
