Gardener looking for a garden..

Hi there,

My name is Eline, I am a product designer from The Netherlands and I am in the UK to do a three year research (PhD) on gardening tools and how they can be improved, especially taking into account the ageing population.

I joined this forum because I'd love to get more hands-on experience with gardening, but I don't even have a garden or balcony at my apartment here! I have little experience gardening, had a postage stamp sized garden in The Netherlands where I tried to grow herbs and vegetables with very little success (east-facing garden with tall flats around, so virtually no sun at all).

Now I am looking for people in Coventry or Birmingham who might let me join them in the garden. I'd like to just help out with gardening activities so I can get a bit more experience and if you have some opinions on tools you hate and love, activities you like or avoid etc, I'd like to hear them too.

So if you live in either Coventry or Birmingham and feel like working together in the garden (no guarantees on quality of work though, I need clear direction), I'd like to hear from you!

 

I would ask "Help the Aged" in the areas you are looking for as a good starting point and that you are happy to volunteer.

I'm in Coventry and there is a very active horticultural society in Kenilworth which may prove useful. Many people there (elderly) would probably appreciate some help, in fact they are redoing the garden at their premises this year. I just joined at their last meeting.
I'm lucky enough not to really need help but if you don't find anywhere else you're welcome here, I'm growing own wedding flowers this year.

Ah i wish you had started this last year im in solihull and would of loved help in the garden.

Kind of on top of things now and not much work is needing to be done this year apart from planting and painting.

If i do find things change and i have lots of work or i get sicker and cant manage as much anymore i will let you know :-)

 

Thank you CharlieBot, I think I'll have a go with the people in Kenilworth, great suggestion. Is it the Kenilworth Horticultural Society you are referring to? I will contact them and ask if I can come to the next meeting.

What a great medium this forum is, I am very grateful for your responses. I will do my best to publish results of my research and might ask a question or two now and then.

 

That's the one. Bob is the chairman though you might be better emailing via their site as he doesn't hear very well. Secretary is just as friendly, agm is in a couple of weeks.
