Don’t know if we have any fans, I certainly am and will be watching the first series this Friday of Gardeners’ World and I will watch Alan Titchmarch Gardening Club if it is coming back this year.

Now let me tell you just over 5 years ago there is no world where I would’ve watched Gardeners’ World, it suffered the same fate as Songs of Praise. But with the pandemic and at home shielding, could not see anyone, I owned one pot full of weeds. So picked up a pair of secateurs (these would be blunt) and never looked back. Gardeners’ World became part of that journey, as it was the only thing being filmed. My main hobby wasn’t available to me.

So started watching Gardeners World maybe 3 episodes before the lovely Nigel passed away.

So Friday evening a curry, beer and Gardeners’ World, what could be better!

I really enjoyed Alan Titchmarsh in th eyears he was at the helm of GW and I thought his How to be a Gardener series was brilliant but I find he's gone sugary, smarmy and sentimental on Love Your Graden so not sure I'll cope with his Gardening Club, thos I'll give it a try.

As for Monty D, I learn very little from him in a whole series these days but watch it (recorded so I can FF) as I like the garden visits and other presenters, especially Adam who always has something interesting to say about plant qualities and combinations.

Should say I've been watching GW since 1983 when we bought a house with a garden. I'd only ever done window boxes before then. Geoff H and his team taught me well and how to do it on a budget which was important then.

I've been enjoying the recent GW highlights programmes. Really gets me in the mood for some serious gardening (and for the new series starting this weekend). We always watch GW but it's surprising just how many pieces you forget over the months so it's great to see them again. This week it was particularly good to see how Nick had got on with his new garden. He's made a fantastic transformation. When are we going to see how Frances is getting on with hers?

My favourite is Rekha with all her interesting veg. Sue is always worth watching too, seeing the way she addresses her physical challenges.

I have just stumbled across this thread. I used to post a description of that night's GW programme on "the other place" which might have been of interest. I could try and remember to do the same here ?

This week's is on Friday (tomorrow !) at 8pm.

"Monty has had a busy winter at Longmeadow and shares exciting new plans to transform the borders in the Jewel Garden. He plants up pots for early colour, shows how to move a clematis and sows veg for the year ahead.

Adam Frost visits Ventnor Botanic Garden on the Isle of Wight, where gardeners are adapting to sporadic flowering and months of drought. And Frances Tophill meets a couple who have recycled, upcycled and salvaged farmyard objects to create their own unique and beautiful garden.

There’s a gardener who turned a concrete slab into her dream garden with a clever use of containers. Plus a professional puppeteer who has created an oasis of calm on his London balcony. "

It has been mentioned on another thread that it's a year today that the closure of the GW forum was announced. Where has the time gone ? I still appreciate the warm welcome from Gardeners Corner .

I wish they would give Rekha a regular slot about veg growing. I find her approach is very down to earth (pardon the pun) and I like the fact that she discusses her failures (growing and flavour etc) and shows how you do need to experiment to find varieties that suit your plot and you. Maybe if Monty does step down they will do.

I enjoy GW even if some of it isn’t of interest, which is just like any magazine. However, I do wish they would do more Geoff Hamilton style pieces where they show you how to create a garden step by step over a season or two. Even with Frances and Nick’s new gardens we only got the briefest before and after pieces. Obviously more would be an invasion of their home space but
There must be somewhere/someone who would welcome it. A bit like the old C4 Real Gardens

The new series of Mr T's Gardening Club started on Monday @GreenFingeredPete , the first episode is repeated on Sunday morning @11.20 on ITV I think.

I seem to remember Camilla Bassett-Smith visiting a garden and doing a redesign in the last series @Butterfly6 , with luck they will return to it.
I used to enjoy Real Gardens .

I haven’t watched any of the Mr T Gardening Club. I also find him too surgery nowadays, loved him on GW.

I can’t bear Love Your Garden, I find it too sentimental and some of the gardens they create seem completely unsuitable for the recipients re practicability etc. They just seem stuffed with whatever expensive garden products they’ve been able to blag that week.

Is he more his old self on the Gardening Club? If so I might give it a try

It's not exclusively him @Butterfly6 , there are other presenters as well.

"In`Alan Titchmarsh's Gardening Club', Alan Titchmarsh and a diverse team of experts shine a light on the latest horticultural trends and innovative gardens across the UK, providing a wealth of practical gardening tips for both aspiring and experienced gardeners. Alongside Alan, the expert team includes David Domoney, horticulturist Camilla Bassett-Smith, community gardener Tayshan Hayden-Smith, eco-friendly gardener Anna Greenland and houseplant expert Sarah Gerrard-Jones."

I would say there's something for everyone. I record it, so if there's anything that doesn't interest me, I just wizz through it .

I have to say I like everyone on Gardeners' World and AT Gardening Club. I watch these programmes to learn, a good teacher is someone who makes a tricky subject sound easy and makes you want to go out in the garden and Monty Do did that.

I so admire Sue kent and Mark Lane.

Then when I watched AT Gardening Club and I think it is ? That had the vegetable plot in his dad's house and he had his own segment, it is wonderful to see someone so young embrace gardening. Other familiar names do pop up on the show, especially if you are familiar with GQT!

I've been watching GW since 1973, I think it was Percy Thrower then. Then we moved to France in 1985 so I couldn't watch it until we got satellite TV in 2002. I missed Geoff Hamilton :gaah: but then I bought some videos of him. I liked Alan Titchmarch when he was on GW. I used to like Peter Seabrook too, years ago.

A lot of it is repeated stuff but I enjoy watching anything about gardens.

I enjoy GW and all the current presenters. I sometimes wish I could be there when Monty does some of his planting though - that rose was not as upright as I would have liked it :rolleyespink:. Pruning the Tilia surprised me too - no consideration for the position of buds, just random low cuts. Is it impolite to notice?

Well last year Monty planted some Meconopsis, Monty didn’t go back to these after he planted these, so only assume these didn’t make it, so with his experience and his team of horticultural assistants who have doctorates, you cannot achieve everything! Saying that I did enjoy last night first episode, I did enjoy ‘Frosty’ when he visited Ventor Botanic Gardens.
