As I being a grumpy old (well not so old) man in thinking that GW has gotten very silly the last few years? And now watching it last night they've introduced some kind of reality TV selection of novice gardeners. :(

Woo said something earlier on on another thread-along the lines of where are the experts?

Despite some initial hopes after watching the first in this series, I agree wholeheartedly.

The debacle where they couldn't even cut grow bags properly and the seed van? summed it up. They are meant to be showing us how to do it right, not wrong.

I never thought I'd say this because I love GW, I watch all the re runs on the satellite channels, but I cringe now.

This entire show should be edited down into a small slot on the proper programme.

I won't be watching it again.

I get very tired of this sort of c***. How much longer will programme makers keep using the Reality TV gambit? Are TV viewers really that interested?

Sadly I agree. Aaron I you are right, it is total rubbish now all this reality TV stuff... I think it is an awful shame when you think how GW has performed over the years with presenters.... I think it started to lose it's way when Monty was there & has never recovered.... Well that is my opinion anyway...

I think Monty was the last decent presenter. He had presence, which none of the others seem to have, and was enthusiastic without being too gung ho. And as for the "shed" with all its nick nacks and Toby's DIY, who are the trying to appeal to? I'm afraid I turned over and watched an old Poirot instead - I'd seen it before but it was much more entertaining.:hehe:

Its a shame really that gardeners complain about GW then do nothing about it.

Has anyone written to the BBC and voiced their concerns about GW?

The BBC cannot make programmes for gardeners if the BBC do not know what gardeners want, its fairly straightforward really. The subject has come up many times on many gardening forums but I have yet to see or hear of one gardener actually doing anything about it apart from switching off.

Want something different from gardeners world? Write to the BBC about it, start a petition..shout from the rooftops, whatever it takes. Do nothing and nothing will get done.

Good point Steve R. In fact I agree with the points all of you have made. So I have just sent this to the BBC via their internet site, with a link to this thread :-

    Gardener's World

I thought you might like to see the comments about the new program made by gardeners.

They do not like it being turned into a reality show.

The reason I watch Beechgrove Garden instead at times it does feel a bit amateurish (the way the presenters talk...) but overall I prefer it especially when they visit interesting places like national collections and things

    Nice one Peter.

Unfortunately the Beeb can do pretty much what they want with programme making. Its not as if we can refuse to pay our TV license, is it?

Yes Daisees - that was part of what I sent to the BBC to let them see these comments.

Never heard of Beechgrove Gardens Aesculus. I saw a bit of the clip. Is this a regular ?

    Probably, but to the BBC..;)

Well done Peter, this is the sort of thing I have done in the past...and I'll add some strength to your email to the beeb by sending one of my own too.

The BBC are NOT telepathic as far as I know and without gardeners telling them what they want to see, they will continue to show what they think we want to see. Sitting on your hands and doing nothing or leaving for someone else to do and your helping to create the gardeners world we have now. So rather than calling them..why not call them and tell them what YOU want. Apathy never gets anything done, send an email to auntie beeb or be happy with the present GW...its that simple.

    Steve...:)
