My once beautiful Gardenia has suddenly - over the past 10 - days developed yellow leaves and drastic leaf drop. I can only put this down to not enough light and too much heat since it has been sitting on a table in the middle of the sitting room and the central heating is now on because of the colder weather. I havent altered the feeding or watering since I bought it and up to now it has flourished. I have tested the Ph and everything is as according to the care of a healthy Gardenia - therefore I can only deduce that the culprits are heat and light. I have now moved it to beside a window and put it on the floor to try and cool it down (the window goes down to the floor)- My question is will the plant come back by making these changes or am I fighting a losing battle. I am well aware that this is a crucial time of year when Gardenias grow their buds. I have attached a couple of photos to show you the condition of the plant now, one from October and one when it was in flower in June. Any help on this would be much appreciated. As you have found, they are temperamental! Check that it is not in a draught, and try to increase the humidity for it, eg put small pebbles in its' tray and keep them moist. Check for spider mite [often accompanies dry air, but yours doesn't look as if it has it]. I have seen one recover from being allowed to dry out resulting in leaf/bud drop and wilting, so I'd think yours has a chance if you can trace what it's objecting to- must be something to do with onset of heating. Shame to lose such a lovely plant!

[IMG] I think it could be down to the heating or maybe a draught as Liz says, but as it has been happy in it's situation for while I would think it is the dry air from your heating. I did find this link while looking for something else. have a look they all seem convinced but I don't know

I hope it will recover on the floor where it is a bit cooler & you should be able to get the humidity there as well. Try putting some of the little clay pellets in the water dish that should help. Hope this works..... [IMG]
