I bought a Gardenia yesterday, £2.99 in morrisons, and it looked so healthy i could not resist! :)

The question is.....label says house plant, but i've googled it some what and it appears that some people say stick ot in the garden.
I'm curious to know if anyone has one and if so what conditions does it do best in?

    Thanks in advance :gnthb:

I think you will find there are two or more different types.

The usual house plant type as far as I know is not hardy, and quite tender, but must admit I have never tried it outside.
There is a type known as Kleims Hardy which has survived this last winter in my garden.

Should add that I've never had much long term luck with the house plant type, they are magnets for scale insect and always end up turning yellow, despite all attemps to stop this happening.

I put mine outside in its pot during the day in the summer but bring it in again every evening. They are very tender.
I shall keep a look out for the Kleims Hardy Pete - haven't heard of that one. Thanks
