gardening books

i wonder if any one could tell me of a good gardening book that covers were to plant how to look after the plants and when and how to prune.

Hi Ray, if you want a cover all reference book, then for me its the RHS tomes - encyclopadia and a-z of garden plants. But their size can be a bit daunting - so take a look at the "Expert" small books stocked in most garden centre, and select those that are relevant to you and what you want to do.

Hi ray,There are so many books out there choice can be a bit daunting. The ones already mentioned are excellent. I found another recently in my local library which I thought very good; again an RHS publication pub. by Dorling Kindersly, 'Learn to Garden'. It's comprehensive but very approachable! The library is a good place to look, you can browse to see what type of book you like, and then choose one to buy.

 

readers digest encyclopaedia of garden plants and flowers. to me it's like the garderers bible, that and hillier's manual of trees and shrubs, and as fran says the "expert" books by dr. hessayon are a very good start.
