Ahh lovely, yes I have had a little look at RHS .. there’s just so much info I don’t know where to start.

I am thinking about venturing out into the garden and experimenting!!

What would you like to grow ?
      Flowers?
      Shrubs/roses ?
      Patio tubs ?
      Vegetables/salads?
What is out there at the moment?
Photo of the blank canvas would help, as would a rough indication of where you are. Just a county will do.

That’s the thing, I have no idea what I want to grow, I’d love to grow pretty flowers (really love the look of Dahlias) maybe some strawberries and some veg, just a bit of everything really. Most of it will have to be potted because we have artificial grass and just a small patch where I grow in the soil.

we are Cambridgeshire, I’ll attach a photo of the garden, it’s not very big as we have a new build, but we have loads of patio space behind this photo. Also our garden is south facing so is a sun trap in the summer.

Something that isn't so common these days is just get some good books and read up on the subject, you could probably start with something like a book on container gardening.
I sometimes think you can try to take on too much information in a short space of time.

      Ok,
Dahlias in large pots/tubs no problem. Grow tubers (look a bit like potatoes!)which are in garden centres now. Strawberries can do well in troughs, many commercial crops now grown this way. Buy plants online or watch for them at Lidl. Sunflowers are easy and offer spectacle/colour, grow from seed planted in April.
Maybe read about 'square foot' gardening* for intensive salads and some veg.
Would you consider lifting some of the astroturf, or you could place containers upon it. (Risk of soil/compost escaping and staining )
