Seems to be a bit of a theme at Chelsea and the like. WTF have these people been living for the past few years? lol!
I have a rhodanthemum, sold as drought tolerant and it's miserable in all this rain and has hardly any flowers on it at all :(
Where do you think the concept has come from? 'Cos it's not from the summer weather in recent years!

Daisybelle, its all part of the climate change thing.
if it sells plants and gives the designers something to waffle about then its good buisness money wise.

The rest of us just grow what we like to grow and carry on as normal.

    Fashion trends in gardening, uggghh.:D

Yep that is the trick. I am sure, downright sure, that if you make a cactus garden it will rain all year, and when you finally you rip it all off and plant a fernery, desert weather will ensue. It is all part of the world´s perverse sense of humor and there is no escaping it. SO forget the press, and chose your own personal mad challenges. Odds are the same anyway.

It's called ''riding on the back of the latest doom and gloom predictions'':)

I need aquatic plants in one part of my garden and drought resistant plants in another part...and I still don't get it right.

Sniney you are absolutely right. I think if one grows a bit of this and a bit of that there is never a "bad" year. SOmething is bound to be good any year ;)
