For me The Garden - a friend of mine bought me membership of the RHS as a gift, and I kept it up. Also Gardening Which - prolly cos I got Which, many many years ago.

Both I find informative but I don't get any other magazine.

Also The Garden. As I live in Harrogate only 3 miles from RHS Harlow Carr, membership of the RHS is especially good value and the magazine just comes as an extra. The problem with any magazine is that the interesting articles can be very interesting but they can also have a lot of articles on areas of no interest. So I have come to the conclusion that the right book can be more informative.

The Garden also, and Garden News which is a weekly publication in newspaper format. The best thing about it it tells you when and how to do things week by week, like when to sow stuff and how to prune. Free seeds from spring to Autumn too.

I have still got 2 copys of gardeners world unopened from last november/december.. :D I get that delivered and buy amateur gardener when the free seeds come To be honest if you have the internet you dont really need the magazines as you can find out all you want to know online..The free seeds are good but their is a place in bham where you can buy last years seeds from for 25p a packet so i usually buy loads of those..

AG and Garden news, the newspaper one. I like the weekly set up, more practical, less glossy, better value, and LOADS of seeds........

I gave up membership of the RHS when I found I hardly ever opened "the garden" once I'd finished the RHS course... I'm just too busy!

The Garden for me as I live quite close to Wisley and my daughter buys my subs. as a xmas preesent. Not sure it's the best magazine for the amateur as their articles verge towards the technical and obscure plants.
RHS is a good place to visit but their plants are expensive and their 'help-line' not v.useful compared to GC.

Chobart - I find the best bit of an RHS garden is the library (after the plants of course).

I used to take Am Gardener but after a while the articles seemed to be the same old same old but what stopped me subscribing in the end was the dreadful puns they always used for almost every article! Some were real groaners!

I used to get The Garden but stopped some time ago. Now all I get is 'Which? Gardening' by The Consumers' Association. They have good articles on different plants, trials on new varieties, test all sorts of things to do with gardening and always have info on what to do in the coming month.

I buy 'Grow your own' and occasionally kitchen gardener, mainly because I have an allotment and I do grow my own. The free planting calendar is great that was in last months issue.

I only buy GW if there is an article ad on the front page that catches my eye.

Garden News for me. I've even used their advertisment pages to send off for stuff.

I bought the Amateur Gardening mag yesterday (it was the only gardening mag on the shelf!) and was completely unimpressed.

The front page mentioned an article by Anne Swithinbank on planting garlic cloves which turned out to be a picture of a 3" pot with a garlic clove about to be inserted and about 20 words at the end of the main article.

The 43 page mag included 15 pages of full page adverts, not bad for Ã?£1.60 [IMG]

I'll try Garden News next, if I can find a local newsagent that sells it
