I hope it is OK if I start a thread so that everyone can post the gardens they have visited on here, rather than having them separately, and maybe we can chat a bit about them eg if someone else has seen the same garden and wants to join in.

We went to see an NGS garden yesterday in south Norfolk. It was quite big with a walled garden, parkland with cowslips and bluebells and herbaceous borders.

Oh, that is lovely. :blue thumb: Is the low hedging box? If so, the box moth caterpillars can't have reached Norfolk yet.

Is it a 'guess the garden' game?

Beautiful @Busy-Lizzie - especially loving the irises and the formal parterre hedging.

Hedging does look like box @ViewAhead but I can assure you that the box moth / caterpillar has reached Norfolk. My sis-in-law lives in central Norwich and took out quite a bit of decimated hedging last year. Then she discovered Xentari and found it worked. Maybe the owners of this garden have discovered that product too.

I also had a major problem last year in mid-Suffolk. First year I'd seen so much damage. I previously removed a lot of box due to problems, first with with blight then the caterpillar, but retained some important structural elements (large box balls and a couple of small hedges). I haven't used pesticides for years but I will use the Xentari this year if I need to. My understanding is that it is quite species specific - I hope it is - and it's only a tiny area of the garden. I'll be feeling guilty as heck anyway.

There was some box blight and there is some in our Norfolk box hedge too @ViewAhead ☹️

@noisette47 as it is a private garden I haven't named it but it is on the NGS site.

Thank you for the tip about Xentari @Topbird. I can't find any caterpillars on my hedge, but they aren't easy to find.

@noisette47 - I think this might be a private garden that just opens for charity on certain day(s) as part of the NGS. It's probably not a garden normally open to the public.

No photos....but sometimes I feel that this take away from the amazement when you see the wonderful garden for yourself.
The Bishop Palace gardens in Wells is full of surprises. It also has local allotments next to it where you can talk to the holder about what they are doing. The volunteers are also very willing to talk about what they are doing and why and then you meet up up with the head gardener who is always prepared to explain the next procedures.
                          A beautiful garden.

We have been to The Bishops Palace at Wells for a visit when we’ve been holidaying down that way from where we live in SE Wales. Lovely surroundings and something around every corner. I feel another visit coming on in 2924 !

Son 2 and DIL and 5 grandchildren are visting. We went to Bressingham Gardens today. It's a bit early in the season but the gardens are looking lovely. There were beds with weeds but others had been weeded and mulched and I saw 3 gardeners busily weeding.
