Now then, many months ago, I planted some garlic hoping it would grow into fabulous garlic plants and I would never have to buy garlic from the supermarket again.

    How naive was I?!

Basically I popped the garlic into the ground, within a few weeks it was shooting and i had some lovely green tall shoots.

These soon fell off and the location of said garlic became a little more hazy than it was.

I understand the germination/ harvest time for garlic is around 32 weeks. This time must be nearly approaching now? Is it possible my garlic could have survived? Should there be any tell tale signs that the bulbs are ready for harvest?

    Please help!

    Many Thanks

I plant garlic in Oct/ Nov LollyB.
I know some people plant in spring, but I don't think it is ever as successful.
The telltale sign that garlic is ready for harvesting is that the top growth is yellowing and dying down.
If you have lost the top growth I think you have lost the garlic.
All you can do is have a dig about and see if there is anything there.
Or get ready to plant in October for a decent crop next year.

daitheplant, if i plant some next month, how long before they are ready to harvest? Does much happen above ground so that you can tell they are ready for harvest?

Lolly, they are an eleven month crop. Plant them, then forget them until next August,:gnthb:
