When my spring planting garlic was delivered, my plot was frozen solid, then it flooded and is still too wet to cultivate, but I planted a several hundred cloves in 'peat' pots and plastic pots, putting them in a polytunnel so they'd get cold conditioned.

Those planted in 'peat' pots had healthy roots bursting through the base (as pictured), but those planted in plastic pots curled their roots up in the bottom of the pots and didn't appear as they'd transplant as successfully:

I planted approx. 300 in the autumn and 425 in pots in the spring, but 'lost' about 30 over winter and probably about another 50 of the spring pot planted ones.

So, that leaves around 645 plants, which equates to nearly 2 bulbs a day!

Not quite that much as you need to deduct a percentage for failure + those set aside to planting next year + stuff to be given to friends & family. etc., but we do like garlic!

I got an email from Franchi/Seeds of Italy on 25th April suggesting Spring Garlic could still be planted. It seems a bit late to me, but you could always try some - choose a softneck variety and get them in PDQ.
