Hello, I was wondering how deep the pots need to be for garlic and spring onions.

The largest I have are approx 30cm deep and 50cm dia pots but have a variety of other sizes up to that.

I start the garlic in smaller pots but need to transfer them to larger ones. When I repot do I leave the compost surface on small pot as compost surface on larger or do I place them a little deeper?

Also with spring onions, do the pots need to be deep too or can the 6-8" deep rectangular ones (mostly seen for herbs) do?

Hello Piggywiggy. Neither the garlic nor the spring onions need deep pots - 6" will be fine.
As for the depth of your garlic - how deep did you plant the cloves in the first instance. If it was a couple of inches down then you can just transplant at the depth they are at. If you just planted below the surface - like shallots - then plant them a bit deeper.
Good luck. I've had some great garlic from containers and spring onions do well too.

Thank you, that's what I suspected just wasn't too sure. Woohoo!
