    Read lots about growing them...

Is it really just a case of sticking cloves and inch deep, wait a few months and hey presto???

Yes as far as I know :)

In the past I've planted them in the spring which was wrong for most varieties, they need to be planted out right now. Split the bulbs and plant the seperate cloves.

Apparently-according to GW you only plant the biggest ones. They said not to do supermarket ones but I am going to give them a go too-not using them so might as well.

Adam, you need to get them in the ground now, and be patient, because you wont be cropping until this time next year.:thumb::D

If you are talking Japanese onions, Adam, planted now they would be cropping about July of next year.
